On June 22, 2025, Andorra will dress up to host the first edition of the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica, a new cycling race that aims to consolidate the country as a leading destination in the international professional cycling calendar. The event, a one-day race with a route to be revealed in May, will be organized by VSL Sports along with the Lidl-Trek professional cyclist and Andorra resident, Carlos Verona. It will also feature technical support from the organizers of the Route d’Occitanie. So far, the race is supported by Andorra Turisme, MoraBanc, the Comú of Andorra la Vella, and the Comú of La Massana.
“Initially, we have been able to confirm the start, which will be in Andorra la Vella, and the finish, which will be in La Massana. From there, we will try to design a mountainous route—as accessible as possible within the terrain—especially in the first part, so the peloton doesn’t blow apart immediately and there is some excitement,” commented Carlos Verona on Radio MARCA during the event presentation.
The Madrid-born cyclist confirmed that the route is pending final confirmation and will be of the highest level: “Andorra has its natural toughness, but I think we’ve achieved a balanced initial route proposal for what Andorra is. We hope it will be liked by the fans and the riders, especially the teams, when we present it in May. It will be a 1.1 category race and 10 World Tour teams will attend.”
Verona also pointed out that the goal is to organize a women’s race. “In the end, it’s a natural step. Starting this year with the creation of a men’s race has already been a bit of a puzzle, but once we manage to stabilize this event, for me, the natural step is to bet on a women’s race. If we are looking for equality, I believe a large part of that responsibility lies in being able to provide the same level of exposure for both men and women. I think we’ve seen a great change in women’s cycling since the Tour de France, La Vuelta, and the Giro started organizing their women’s editions with live television. Ultimately, I believe this is what truly bridges the gap between men’s and women’s cycling.”
With a unique setting in the heart of the Pyrenees, Andorra has been the ideal location for many professional teams and elite cyclists for decades due to its high-altitude training camps and world-renowned mountain passes. Additionally, the country has hosted several stage starts and finishes for Grand Tours like the Tour de France and La Vuelta a España. Now, this cycling legacy culminates with the arrival of the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica, a competition that will bring together the best teams and riders in the world, offering a unique opportunity to see them compete on our soil. With 145 km and 4,300 m of elevation gain, it will feature a route 100% within Andorran territory, starting in Andorra la Vella and finishing in La Massana, becoming a high-mountain classic scheduled very close to the start of the Tour de France.
For now, today’s presentation has revealed the date and the name of the race, but it won’t be until May that we learn more details: the route, the first participating teams, etc.
A commitment to cycling excellence
The Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica aims not only to be a sporting benchmark but also a driver to position Andorra as a premier cycling territory on the international stage. The race will feature major teams from the UCI World Tour circuit and renowned cyclists, consolidating the country as a privileged destination for major sporting events.
This event aligns with Andorra’s strategy to promote sports tourism and boost the local economy, providing a platform to highlight the country’s appeal both for professional cyclists and for fans who want to enjoy a cycling experience on our mountain passes.
