The Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica grows for its second edition, solidifying its place as a key warm-up event ahead of the Tour de France

Founded and organized by Carlos Verona, the race will take place on June 21 and will feature nine teams that are also set to compete in the French Grand Tour

Andorra la Vella, June 1, 2026

The second edition of the Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica was presented this Monday at the MoraBanc Auditorium in Andorra la Vella. The event was attended by the Hon. Mr. Jordi Torres, Andorra’s Minister of Tourism and Commerce; Wiro Martín, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at MoraBanc; Carlos Verona, professional cyclist; and Gerard Riart, CEO of VSL Sports, representing the race organization.

The race will be held on June 21, once again bringing together some of the world’s top teams and riders just thirteen days before the Tour de France kicks off in Barcelona. Among them are nine of the teams heading to the Grand Tour. This strategic date on the calendar makes the Andorran event an excellent opportunity for numerous squads to complete one of their final high-mountain tests before the Tour.

The organizers have designed a 125-kilometer route with 3,780 meters of positive elevation gain that will traverse all seven of the Principality’s parishes. The course features a demanding and spectacular profile, defined by relentless rolling terrain and two category-one climbs. The finish line will once again be located at the Coll de la Botella, one of the most iconic spots in Andorran cycling. Another major highlight of the race will be the passage through the Les Pardines sector, where a sterrato (gravel) section promises high drama for the riders and stunning visuals for the fans.

Among the main new features of this second edition is a change of venue for the start, which will take place at the Plaça del Poble in Andorra la Vella. The goal is to bring the race even closer to the fans, allowing them to soak up the pre-race atmosphere and see the stars of the international peloton up close. The Plaça del Poble will host various cycling-related activities, not only on Sunday but also throughout Saturday afternoon.

The lineup will once again feature world-class teams. The event will include five UCI WorldTeams: Jumbo-Visma Lease a Bike, Lidl-Trek, Movistar Team, EF Education-EasyPost, and Groupama-FDJ. Additionally, eleven ProTeams will take the start, including Caja Rural-Seguros RGA, Q36.5 Pro Cycling Team, Cofidis, and TotalEnergies—all of whom are also slated for the upcoming Tour de France. Rounding out the field are other prominent squads such as Euskaltel-Euskadi, Burgos Burpellet BH, and Kern Pharma, among others. As was the case in the inaugural edition, the Andorra national team will also be part of the peloton.

The race, which is once again partnered with the Route d’Occitanie, will benefit from significant international exposure thanks to live television coverage. The event can be followed on the Eurosport-HBO platform, and in Spain, it will also air on Teledeporte, Esport3, and ETB. In Andorra, the broadcast will be handled by RTVA, while in France, it will be available on France TV.

Another major highlight this year will be the Cronoescalada x Toteemi, a timed hill climb initiative open to amateur cyclists taking place on June 21. Participants will be able to test themselves against the clock on the final kilometers of the professional route and later compare their times with the elite riders. The benchmark to beat will be the time set by Mattias Skjelmose, winner of the first Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica, who completed the climb in 26 minutes and 38 seconds.

Statements:

Carlos Verona, professional cyclist and race organizer: “The date right before the Tour is excellent, though there’s also plenty of competition. The second edition is growing, and we want to establish ourselves as the ultimate mountain test before the Tour. Lidl-Trek will do the Dauphiné and then head to a training camp in Andorra, with a large part of their Tour roster racing the Clàssica—which is exactly what we envisioned when we created this event. I think Movistar will do something similar.” The rider confirmed during the presentation that he is on track to race the Tour de France and celebrated the fact that “the Clàssica has grown in terms of participation and broadcasting. We want to keep building on this momentum; having a team like Jumbo-Visma Lease a Bike join us is huge. I’ll send Vingegaard a message to see if he’s up for it.”

Gerard Riart, CEO of VSL Sports and race organizer: “We wanted a home-grown race that represents the country. Andorra has hosted the Vuelta, the Tour, and the Volta, but we wanted a professional local cycling event of our own. Thanks to all our sponsors, this second edition is a reality.”

Wiro Martín, Chief Marketing and Communications Officer at MoraBanc: “Supporting sports is deeply rooted in MoraBanc’s DNA. We are involved in basketball, football, skiing, and cycling. It’s not just for the exposure, but because of shared values like hard work and dedication. Cycling is a team sport, and we truly see ourselves reflected in a discipline like this.”

Hon. Mr. Jordi Torres, Minister of Tourism and Commerce of Andorra: “We were thrilled about this race from the very first day it was proposed to us. This is only the second edition of an event that is bound to become massive. Andorra is cycling territory, and showcasing the country through this sport is incredibly important. The Andorra MoraBanc Clàssica is a phenomenal showcase for everything cycling and sports represent in Andorra.”
